BUTTERFLIES AND LADYBIRDS (Pre-school)

Welcome to our rooms.

One room Ladybirds is for 3 year olds and the other Butterflies is for 4 year old. Sometimes you will find that the ages mix. We do very much the same thing though.

The Ladybirds are a little more advanced to help them prepare for school.

Within both rooms, we have different stages of development, so activities are put out and adapted for all of us.

We are at a very independent stage, this means that our key workers know we are sensible enough to take ourselves to the bathroom but under supervision.

The day is filled with loads of fun activities where we can explore, discuss and find things out for ourselves, or with a helping hand from our friends and key workers.

We also have a choices board to choose what we would like to play with and this encourages good decision making!

We quickly learn to respect how each other feels and therefore can play on our own, or with a group of our friends.

We continually work in accordance with the National Curriculum Foundation Stage, which also carries us through to our reception class in school.

We have outdoor play as well as indoor and can go between the two freely because we have a safety fence to ensure we don’t wander! We go outside in the gardens whether it’s sunny or rainy and play on the climbing frame and other equipment.

We have dancing one morning a week with a dance teacher to encourage balance, skippung and counting.

We enjoy cutting up our own fruit at snack time, pouring our own drinks which we can have throughout the day. At lunch time we use the big hall where we set our own places at the table and have a healthy lunch and at tea time we can help ourselves to fruit and vegetable sticks, sandwiches etc. and sometimes we have a picnic outside dependant upon the weather.

You know we don’t have to be asked to say please and thank you as these words have become a part of our every day language!

We can bring something in from home to “show and tell” and it’s important we learn to listen to each other and our key workers.

Our key workers will observe our play and will plan activities just for us.

On PE days we try to see if we can manage all those buttons and buckles because we change into shorts and T shirts from our day clothes.

We wear a uniform you know, this is because we don’t have to worry about getting paint on them and ruining our best clothes, and also when we go on trips our key workers know what to look for!!

We can, when we are ready,  learn to recognise our names and write them as well, and we learn all our basic colours and even how two colours can make another one, and we also learn how to count things, how to sort things out and we learn to make decisions without worrying if its wrong!

In our room everything is waiting to be discovered and we love asking questions because we know we are going to find out what the answer is most of the time (sometimes we ask really personal questions and we don’t always get the answer then – for some strange reason our key workers seem to change the subject!)

We go on walks  to local parks and when we return to nursery we discuss what we have seen and what we enjoyed most about our outing.

In pre-school we are getting ready to go to school and our key workers encourage us to become confident and sociable little adults so when we go we don’t worry about learning and meeting new people.
