BUTTERCUPS

Welcome to Buttercups Room.

We are between the age of 18 months and 2 years and definitely toddlers more than babies.

In our room we get up to all sorts of mischief and are known as the terrible 2’s!

We are going through our clingiest and probably most unsociable stage of development and each day is really different – depending on our moods!

Sometimes we love to share and join in, other times we battle for superiority and want to win.

Sometimes we make each other cry but lots of times we make each other laugh too because of the antics we get up to.

We still sleep after lunch and also have soft music, but because we’re big we can go down to the hall and have our dinner with the "biggies".

We still sit on smaller chairs but we can help ourselves to our cutlery and tuck into our food with relish.

We wear aprons because we still tend to miss a bit and its not very nice for mummy to wash off tomato sauce and the like!

We love to paint, play with water (and in it sometimes), wear caps to play with the sand so we don’t get it in our hair, and we like glueing and drawing.

We have our own kitchen and can cook if we want to (pretend that is!) and climbing things and construction toys and puzzles.

We do lots of things with colour and shape, but we love also to listen to stories and tapes, and sing, and dance, and play musical instruments.

Our room is really noisy because we are doing something all of the time.

If we get a little bit unsociable (that’s a long word!) we have to take time out but as we’re little this isn’t too long – and hopefully not too often as we soon learn!

That’s the good thing about us we learn quickly and our language lets us get the message across.

We are encouraged to become independent, toilet training to come out of those awful pads, have drinks whenever we want them and eat nicely.

We say please and thank you but often have to be reminded.

Our key workers say this is important as it makes us nice little children – you bet!

Although we are learning lots all of the time, the key word is sociable in this room as that’s supposed to be one of the hardest development areas, so let us become sociable and then we’ll learn other things too.

We look forward to going to Pooh Bears and we spend time with them often in the garden on the play equipment and riding around the grass.

We love being able to move around and enjoy the sun as well as the wet because each season brings new fun ideas.

Beware when you come see us in Buttercups for you may get splashed!

By the way you can wear your shoes in our room if you wish to venture in.
